LASER THERAPY
How it works
Laser therapy is a drug free way to relieve pain. It works by using specific wavelengths of light to penetrate tissue and open up blood vessels and the lymphatic draining system. This promotes circulation, decreases inflammation and releases endorphins. Laser Therapy also promotes healing at the cellular level by increasing the release of ATP, a molecule that stores and transports energy within a cell.
How we use it
Post-Surgical Healing: One of the most frequent uses of Laser Therapy at the Elmsdale Animal Hospital is the treatment of incisions after surgery. The laser promotes healing and reduces inflammation, critical for patients having just undergone a surgical procedure.
Injury: Whether the injury is muscle, bone or skin related, Laser Therapy can be used to both decrease pain and inflammation while speeding the healing process.
Dental Procedures: Laser Therapy can be used after a tooth extraction to promote healing and decrease inflammation or as part of a protocol for treating periodontal disease.
Allergies: Laser Therapy can be used to treat inflamed skin and ears due to allergies.

ACUPUNCTURE
At Elmsdale Animal Hospital, we use Acupuncture as a form of physiotherapy. Using trigger points, the body is stimulated to release its own anti inflammatory substances. The needles also help to relax muscles and improve blood flow.
Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment or as part of a pain management protocol using supplements, medications and laser therapy. |
